LASIK (LAser-in-Situ Keratomileusis)

The LASIK method is a popular surgical procedure for replacing glasses.. The curvature of the cornea is modified with a laser and the result is that the images are projected much better. The sight improves because of this.

In the LASIK procedure the upper layer of the cornea is loosened and turned upside down. The underlying layer is treated with the laser; during this process a small amount of tissue vaporizes. Hereafter the "flap" is replaced.

Suited for:

  • Shortsightedness: -1 up to –7 diopter, long-sightedness: +1 up to +4 diopter

  • Cylinder errors: up to 4 diopter

Advantages:

  • Short day treatment

  • Immediate effect

Disadvantages:

  • The treatment is not reversible.

  • Because the "flap" has to grow back the eyes will be very fragile for a certain period after the treatment.
